Our Journey

The Story Behind the Calculator

Chicken Coop Calculator started from a place of personal frustration. Like many first-time chicken keepers, we found ourselves overwhelmed by the conflicting information online about how much space chickens really need. Some sources said 2 square feet per bird, while others claimed 10!

After consulting with avian veterinarians and agricultural extension services, we realized that the answer depended entirely on the breed, the climate, and the flock management style. We created our calculator to take the guesswork out of coop planning.

Today, our simple tool has helped thousands of backyard homesteaders design coops that keep their flocks healthy, happy, and safe from predators and bad weather.
